Newport man charged with child sex crimes and held on $1 million bail

NEWPORT, Carteret County — A Newport man is behind bars facing child sex crime charges following an investigation in Carteret County.

On Monday, Carteret County DSS contacted the sheriff’s office to report allegations that a child under the age of 13 had reported being raped and other sexual abuse.

A joint investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division and DSS led to the arrest of 46-year-old Dolores Garcia on Monday, October 28.

Garcia faces two counts of statutory sexual offenses by an adult with a child and one count of statutory rape by an adult with a child.

He remains jailed in the Carteret County Detention Center on $1 million bail.
