Birmingham man pleads guilty to federal weapons charges

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – A Birmingham man has pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Traddarryl Boykins, 32, of Birmingham, pleaded guilty to a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Court documents say the charge stemmed from an incident in which authorities say Boykins led Homewood police officers on a chase from Homewood to downtown Birmingham.

The pursuit ended when police say Boykins crashed into another vehicle at the intersection of 18th Street North and 15th Avenue North.

The driver and passenger of the vehicle, who were many injured in the accident, were taken to hospitals in the region in critical condition.

Boykins was arrested following a search of the vehicle after officers found a loaded Glock 23 pistol in the driver’s floorboard.

Federal authorities say Boykins is barred from owning a firearm because of a prior felony conviction.
