Crackdown on 2 dacoity cases held by rural police in Shahkot

In a major breakthrough, Jalandhar Rural Police arrested two notorious criminals involved in multiple night-time dacoity cases in Shahkot district on Tuesday. Police recovered stolen mobile phones and a motorcycle used in the crimes.

The accused are identified as Jatinder Jit of Mulewal Araya village and Harjinder Singh of Chitti village. According to the police, Jatinder has seven criminal cases registered against him, while Harjinder has two criminal cases.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh said the arrests followed investigations into the last two dacoity cases. “In the early hours of August 18, three men on a motorcycle committed a dacoity at Surinder Kaur’s house in Miewal Arayan village. They stole gold bangles and other valuables from the house. “In another incident on the night of September 28, two suspects entered the house of Manpreet Kaur in Mulewal Arayan village and stole gold jewellery, Rs 8,000 cash and two mobile phones,” he said.

A special team, led by Shahkot SHO Inspector Jatinder Singh, under the supervision of SP (Investigation) Jasroop Kaur Bath and DSP Onkar Singh Brar, conducted raids based on technical and human intelligence to nab the accused.

Police seized two mobile phones and a motorcycle from the suspect’s possession. “Initial investigations indicate that more people are involved in these cases. We are carrying out more raids to nab the accomplices,” said the SSP.

In this regard, an FIR was registered against both the accused at Shahkot police station in Jalandhar Rural under Sections 305, 331(4) and 3(5) of the BNS.

It was reported that both defendants were covered by the bailout package when they committed these crimes. Jatinder’s criminal record includes cases under the NDPS Act, Arms Act and multiple dacoity charges, while Harjinder faces charges of forgery and violating the Arms Act.

“The accused will be produced before the court and police custody will be sought for further investigation. We have adopted a zero tolerance approach towards crime and will deal strictly with the criminals,” added SSP Khakh.
