Three Chinese nationals were arrested after seven packs of cigarettes were found smuggled inside plush toys brought to Singapore.

This discovery was made during a two-day operation from October 22 to 23, Singapore Customs said in a statement on Facebook. to post.

During the raids, customs officers found seven packs of cigarettes hidden inside plush toys said to be “decorations”.

In total, officers seized 115 packs and 19 duty-free cigarettes; This equates to an estimated customs duty of S$1,279 and GST evaded.

3 student card holders arrested

The 21-year-old Chinese national was arrested on Tao Ching Road with 70 packs of cigarettes in four packs.

He allegedly bought them on behalf of a friend overseas, who told him to either deliver the items or arrange for buyers in Singapore to pick them up.

He was brought to court on October 25.

The other three packages were imported by two other Chinese nationals, aged 22 and 28.

They were awarded comp sums of S$3,000 and S$2,500.

All three men are student card holders.

The agency reminded the public to be wary of evasion attempts that undermine the integrity of Singapore’s tax system.
