Multiple Applebee’s restaurants are closing suddenly overnight

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV/Gray News) – Multiple Applebee’s restaurants in the Kansas City metro area have suddenly closed.

A lot Applebee’s Employees in Kansas City woke up Wednesday morning to news of the restaurant’s sudden closure.

Company officials confirmed the closures and said the affected locations were independently owned.

“Applebee’s restaurants are independently owned and operated by franchisees. “The closure of eight restaurants in the Kansas City market appears to be the result of financial conditions and franchisee decisions,” said Applebee’s President Tony Moralejo. “This situation is unfortunate, and we continue to believe that the Kansas City area is a great neighborhood for Applebee’s restaurants.”

“Two Applebee’s restaurants in the Kansas City area continue to serve our guests,” Moralejo continued.

Company officials noted that although they do not generally discuss individual franchisees, this particular entity has gone through periods where it was not in good standing with the brand and has proven unable to represent the brand well in the Kansas City market.

The two Applebee’s restaurants that remain open in the area are the Blue Springs and Gladstone locations.
