Pixel 9's awesome new Weather app is now heading to older Pixels

Ours Google Pixel 9 review We’ll tell you that this is a phone series we’re huge fans of, and that, aside from flagship phones in 2024, Google also added a new and improved Weather app to Pixel 9 devices; This application is now available on older Pixels as well.

Earlier this month Google he told us this was going to happen and 9to5Google noticed its rollout is currently underway: every Pixel phone Google Pixel 6 and then become eligible to receive the updated Weather app.

If you have a supported phone you should get the update automatically. You can also check it manually by opening the window. Play Store Tap your profile picture (top right) and then Manage apps and device. If any updates are available (including the Weather app), you’ll see them here.

This will upgrade the Weather app you currently have on your Pixel phone with all the new features. It’s a good idea to restart your phone after the update so that every part of Android (including widgets at a glance) pulls data from the new app.

like we do previously reportedThere’s a lot to discover in the new Weather app; a Dark Sky-style radar map that specifically shows rainfall areas in real time. Besides the basics, there is information on wind speed, UV levels, visibility, and sunset and sunrise times.

In addition to the hourly forecast, there are also notifications that will alert you if rain or snow is falling towards your current location. If you want, you can sign up for daily weather forecast notifications from the application settings.

However, the AI weather report, which uses artificial intelligence to create a summary of conditions in your area, will remain exclusive to Pixel 9 phones. This is most likely due to the extra built-in AI processing found in the Pixel 9 series via the Gemini Nano ( Pixel 8 phones also have Gemini Nano but are not activated in the same way).

This AI hardware limitation likely means we won’t see other Pixel 9-exclusive features like Pixel Screenshots and Pixel Studio making their way to older phones. However, it’s nice to see the excellent Weather app trickling down.
