Looting, violence breaks out after Los Angeles Dodgers win baseball World Series | US News

The Los Angeles Dodgers won baseball’s World Series for the second time in five years, but the celebrations were marred by looting and violence.

The Dodgers clinched the title by beating the New York Yankees 4-1 in the best-of-seven final in New York on Wednesday night, US time.

But soon after the game ended and jubilant Dodgers fans took to the streets to celebrate, there were reports of a bus being set on fire, stores looted and fireworks thrown at police in scenes of “absolute chaos” in downtown Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) said it received reports of “many stores in the area of ​​8th and Broadway being looted” around 10:45 p.m.

Multiple dispersal orders have been issued for different parts of the city, including streets near Dodger Stadium in the Elysian Park area.

A bus was set on fire as part of the chaos.

Eyewitness Taylor Rosa, 27, who lives in Los Angeles, told Sky’s US partner network NBC News that the situation was “complete chaos” as people “got out of control and started looting and jumping on top of a bus”.

Comments on Instagram included “so embarrassing” and “They’re acting like the Dodgers lost.”

According to the Los Angeles Scanner account on X, multiple arrests were made throughout the night in Echo Park and downtown.

The LAPD later spoke of a “hostile crowd” and “a variety of projectiles” being thrown at officers, including rocks and bottles.

They tussled with the Dodgers’ Mookie Betts as he tried to catch a shot near the fence at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday night.

As Betts jumped up to the wall and caught the ball, one fan grabbed his glove with both hands and pulled the ball out, while another grabbed Betts’ other hand.

They were ejected from the game and banned from the next game.
