Police suspend annual Zaar festival in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has announced the suspension of the annual Zaar festival, which was initially scheduled to be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024.

In a statement made by Command Spokesperson SP Ahmed Wakil on Thursday, it was revealed that the decision was based on the restraining order issued by the Supreme Court on October 30, 2024.

“Pursuant to the directive of the Supreme Court, the Bauchi State Police Command hereby informs the public that the 2024 Zaar Festival scheduled to be held on November 2 has been suspended,” the command said.

SP Wakil noted that past Zaar Festival events were marred by clashes, including attacks, property damage and disturbances to public order.

“Therefore, the festival organizers and participants are prohibited from holding any related parades in Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro Local Government Areas or elsewhere until the final court order is given,” he added.

SP Wakil also stated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Mohammed, announced measures to ensure safety and harmony in the society across the state.
