Cal Fire lifts burn suspension in Mendocino County • The Mendocino Voice

MENDOCINO CO., 10/31/24 – The arrival of fall weather has resulted in the Cal Fire Mendocino Unit lifting the suspension of residential and agricultural burns today.

This allows residents and agricultural businesses with valid and existing permits located in the State Responsibility Area to obtain a burn permit to burn their property, Cal Fire said.

Permits are required for residential and agricultural burns in areas managed by Cal Fire. The agency also recommends that parties wishing to burn a check contact their local fire department if additional permits are required locally.

Burns can only occur on permitted burn days.

Inspections are required for all agricultural burns, and residential burns may also be inspected upon Cal Fire’s request.

“The safe residential burning of forest debris by landowners is a critical tool in reducing fire hazards,” Cal Fire said. “State, federal and local land management and fire departments will also use the same window of opportunity to conduct prescribed burns aimed at improving forest health and resilience on private and public lands.”

Permits are available at: burnpermit.fire.ca.gov.

Cal Fire is also asking interested parties to call the Mendocino County Air Management District at (707) 463-4391 to verify that they have the correct permits and that this is a permitted burn day.
