Laverdure found guilty of rape and incestuous sexual assault

Douglas Laverdure was convicted on October 31 on two counts of aggravated rape, three counts of aggravated sexual assault and one count of incest.

The case involved events spanning three decades and a multi-day jury trial this week.

While investigating a different case in recent years, a deputy with the Cascade County Sheriff’s Office found allegations of rape, incest and sexual assault dating back to 2007, and along with a Cascade County attorney reopened the case to Laverdure, according to Cascade County. In September 2007, a woman reported to CCSO that her common-law husband, Laverdure, who was born in May 1963, fondled their son, who was born in June 2006 and was 14 months old at the time, according to court documents.

According to court documents, a CCSO detective spoke with the woman; The woman said she saw Laverdure and her baby in the bathtub the night before, submerging the child in the bathwater while reaching under his legs and caressing his testicles. The woman said she immediately took the child from Laverdure and didn’t say anything to him out of fear, according to charging documents.

Three juveniles were charged in the Oct. 30 shooting; no injuries reported

According to court documents, the morning after the 2007 bathtub incident, the woman said she was talking to other children in the house at the time, who were born in 1997, 1999 and 2004.

She told the detective that her daughter, who was born in 1997, was upset and said that when the woman left, Laverdure put “her private parts on her private parts.” His son, who was born in 1999 and is now deceased, said Laverdure touched him but did not go into detail, according to court documents.

A detective conducted a forensic interview with the girl, who was 10 at the time, and she said her stepfather had been abusing her for the past three years, since she was four, according to court documents.

In December 2007, a CCSO detective spoke with another child of the woman, who was born in 1992 and was not living at the home when she reported Laverdure.

The boy was 15 at the time of the interview and eventually revealed that while he was living in the same house with Laverdure, Laverdure beat him from his 11th birthday until he was almost 13, leaving him away from home for nearly two years. It’s time to meet, according to court documents.

The boy also told investigators that Laverdure pointed a shotgun at him and his mother on Christmas. The boy also told investigators that Laverdure raped and sexually assaulted him.

In 2022, one of the victims of the 2007 charges became a witness in an unrelated case, Racki said.

It is common practice for the district attorney or sheriff’s office to conduct checks to ensure that witnesses have not made false statements in the past.

While checking this out, CCSO Det. Jacob Tri came across the 2007 investigation and asked Racki if these charges could be prosecuted.

Racki told The Electric that he told Tri it was possible the victims were willing to testify because the district attorney’s office declined to prosecute the case in 2007 for reasons unknown to Racki.

Racki assigned his office’s prosecutor, Stephanie Fuller, to the case. Fuller and Tri began contacting victims and witnesses and gathering all remaining evidence from the 2007 case.

In October 2023, a CCSO deputy unrelated to the ongoing investigation was assigned to take a report of a sexual assault that occurred nearly a decade ago.

The deputy interviewed a woman and her daughter, who were born in August 2007 and were 16 years old at the time of the interview, according to court documents.

The young boy told the detective that when he was six or seven years old, his uncle Laverdure touched his thigh and vaginal area.

Charges were filed against Laverdure in December 2023, and he was arrested that month and has been held in the Adult Detention Center since then.

Racki said sentencing was set for December 2024.
