Argument over music leads to fatal stabbing in downtown Las Vegas apartment

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – An argument over loud music led to a fatal stabbing in downtown Las Vegas.

FOX5 obtained an arrest report for Aristides Rafael Matute. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is charging him with open murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

There was a stabbing at an apartment near Decatur Boulevard and Rancho Drive. It was the early hours of the morning of October 17th.

Las Vegas police received a call reporting a fight. When officers arrived, they saw two Hispanic men pinning each other to the ground. One of them was Matute.

Officers were going to take him into custody.

Officers entered the apartment and found a man inside with stab wounds. He later died at UMC. Matute was also transported to UMC for “unknown injuries.”

Police launched an investigation into the stabbing incident. They met with the family living at the address.

In an interview, a family member said they came to Las Vegas from Venezuela seeking asylum. The victim was his father and his brother-in-law Matute stabbed him.

That night, the family lay in bed with Matute playing loud music. The family asked him to turn down the music, but he refused.

Matute started an argument and fight with the witness’s father.

According to the report, Matute stabbed him multiple times with a knife he took from next to his bed.

Matute tried to flee the scene but was stopped by his family.

Police officers would later find the knife behind the living room couch.

Due to the suspect’s medical condition, police were unable to speak with Matute.

As a result of the police investigation, officers arrested Matute on an open charge of murder with a deadly weapon.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Nov. 19
