Retired Las Vegas sergeant pleaded guilty to shoplifting massage parlors | courts

A retired Metropolitan Police Department sergeant accused of stealing from massage parlors while on duty will plead guilty to burglary and attempted coercion charges, his lawyer said Thursday.

Police claimed Sean Lucero made ill-gotten deposits totaling $37,160, which often coincided with days when he participated in “massage parlor operations,” where detectives pretended to be patrons of parlors suspected of offering prostitution.

After defense attorney Craig Hendricks informed Las Vegas Magistrate Judge Amy Chelini about the plea, she told Lucero he could continue with the deal in District Court or change his mind.

Lucero’s sentence was not agreed upon; The prosecution and defense will be able to present arguments about what should have happened.

Police have previously said Lucero “demonstrated a keen interest in massage parlor operations” and that a detective’s efforts to pursue other enforcement actions more frequently rebuffed the detective’s efforts.

“He insisted on searching areas where money was more likely to be hidden and conducted searches even when no search warrant was executed,” Metro said.

Police said Lucero admitted to detectives that he stole from massage parlors 10 to 12 times.

“That’s not who I am,” he said, according to police, adding: “I didn’t come this far to get this far in my career.”

Lucero’s next hearing will be held on November 7.
