It has been announced that a formal investigation will be launched in mid-November into the stabbings in Westfield, Bondi Junction.

The inquest into the deaths of seven people in a stabbing attack at Westfield Bondi Junction will begin on November 12.

More than six months after attacker Joel Cauchi killed seven people on April 13, the NSW Coroner confirmed an inquest will be held at the State Coroner’s Court in Lidcombe, Sydney, on Tuesday (November 12).

NSW Coroner Teresa O’Sullivan will seek to determine when and where each victim died, their cause of death and the circumstances surrounding their deaths.

The hearing will run from 10:00 to 16:00 every day and the public will be allowed to attend the hearings.

Cauchi began a murder spree at 3.30pm on Saturday, April 13, approaching random shoppers and stabbing them.

The 40-year-old man killed five women and a man before being shot by a NSW Police officer, leaving several others seriously injured.

Police Inspector Amy Scott was labeled a hero for her immediate response to the attack.

Scott was the first on the scene in Westfield, found Cauchi and ordered him to drop his gun. When the attacker turned and raised his knife, police shot him dead.

Ashlee Good (38), Dawn Singleton (25), Pikria Darchia (55), Jade Young (47) and Yixuan Cheng (27) were killed along with security guard Faraz Tahir (30).

Ms Good’s nine-month-old daughter, who was in a stroller at the time, was also stabbed by Mr Cauchi.

The mother, who was in critical condition, managed to give her baby to two strangers while she was lying injured on the ground. The baby underwent emergency surgery and survived the attack.
