Instagram video shows London cat hiding under van for 10 hours

A cat charity has appealed to owners facing financial difficulties to contact them for support rather than leaving cats on their doorstep.

It comes after Cats Protection published a post CCTV video on Instagram, external A cat was left on the doorstep of his north-west London headquarters earlier this year. The cat was then hidden in the bumper of a van for more than 10 hours.

When the cat, named Electra after the electric van she was hiding under, was pulled out of her hiding place, the team discovered that she was pregnant with four kittens and would soon give birth.

She was placed in the care of a caregiver who provided her with the care she needed, and her kittens were safely delivered. Cats Protection said he was “one of the lucky ones”.

Cats Protection said it had seen a 34% increase in abandonments this year.

The charity understands that difficult and desperate situations can lead to people abandoning their cats, but is urging any owners struggling to communicate with their cats to seek help and advice.
