Man puts victim through ‘terrible ordeal’ in attempt to rape Leicester

The court heard the victim had been drinking on the night of the attack when Ghulan spotted her wandering around looking for sex workers.

After getting into his car, he drove her to remote areas where he sexually assaulted and attempted to rape her before returning to the city centre.

The victim tried to escape at a gas station before the defendant took her to a hotel parking lot, where he tried to persuade her to go to a room with him.

His friends found him through a location app on his phone, where he was found muddy and bruised and Ghulan was seen without his pants.

During a week-long trial at Leicester Crown Court, the defendant was found guilty of five sexual offences, as well as offenses relating to stealing and using the victim’s bank card.

Following the sentencing, Maimuna Bappa of the Crown Prosecution Service said Ghulan “subjected his victim to a horrific ordeal”.

“The victim had little memory of what happened other than that she was assaulted and was determined not to submit to his sexual advances,” he said.

“The picture of these events was clear; this is an extremely dangerous sexual attacker and the victim showed extraordinary courage to resist him during the attack and to give whatever assistance he could to the investigation and prosecution.”
