Regan Smith follows suit with another world record
Douglass’ compatriot Rebecca Soni broke what was one of the last world records of the full-body suit era in 2009. Douglass had last beaten Soni’s reference time of 2:14.12 minutes at the World Cup in Incheon, South Korea, and was now 1.4 seconds faster. Regan Smith followed suit with another world record. The US-American clocked 54.41 seconds in the 100-meter backstroke in Incheon and followed that with a time of 54.27 minutes in Singapore. Swiss swimmer Noe Ponti broke the world record in the 50 m dolphin at the opening of the World Cup in Shanghai.
