Six teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a 13-year-old girl was found with life-threatening injuries on the side of the road.

Police found that the girl had sustained cuts on her neck, abdomen, chest and back.

The girl was reportedly stabbed at around 6.50am on Friday and was found alongside the A63 in Hessle, Yorkshire.

Humberside Police said the woman was taken to hospital for treatment and remains in a critical condition.

Six teenagers, including four boys aged 14, 15, 16 and 17, and two girls aged 14 and 15, were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after they were found in a nearby wooded area.

All six people are being held in police custody.

Detective Constable Simon Vickers, who is leading the investigation, said: “I understand that this incident will rightly cause concern within the community and I would like to reassure you that six people are in custody as part of our initial investigation and are being questioned by detectives.

“We now believe the attackers knew the victim and investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“Locals in the area can expect an increased police presence throughout the weekend as my officers provide additional reassurance to residents.

“If you see them and have concerns please come and talk to us.

“Cordons remain in place surrounding the woodland off Ferriby High Road to enable emergency services to operate safely and pursue multiple lines of inquiry.

“I would also like to thank the citizens who came to the girl’s aid and helped her on the roadside before the emergency services arrived.

“If you have any information that could assist officers or have dashcam or CCTV footage of the incident, please contact us on our non-emergency number 101, quoting log 82 of 1 November.”
