SCLR Extension Will Open in January 2025

SCLR Extension Will Open in January 2025

The much-anticipated Santacruz Chembur Link Road (SCLR) Extension project is in its final stages with just a 100-metre mezzanine span awaiting installation. Sources said this section, which is part of the cable-stayed bridge, is on track for completion after the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) received necessary traffic clearances for the two planned blocks. The phased installation will be compatible with the curved design of the bridge, followed by the installation of suspension cables and road pavement.

The 4.2-kilometer SCLR extension, whose construction began in 2016, was initially planned to be completed in 2019 but faced delays due to land acquisition issues, especially defense land. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) recently approved payment of Rs 16 billion to the defense authorities; This was a very important step in finalizing the project.

The extension from Kapadia Nagar to Panbai International School connects important points such as Vakola Junction, Ambedkar Chowk, University Junction and BKC Junction. This new route is expected to significantly ease traffic flow between Kurla and Vakola and increase connectivity between Mumbai’s vibrant corridors. Once approvals are received, the last section is planned to be opened to the public on January 1, 2025.
