Nick Bosa unlikely to be suspended for MAGA hat as NFL investigates incident: report

NFL San Francisco 49ers linebacker Nick Bosa is reportedly looking into the incident where he showed off his “Make America Great Again” hat during a live post-game interview, according to a report.

Bosa reportedly does not face suspension but could be fined for violating league rules. CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones reported. The incident occurred when Bosa missed 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy’s postgame interview following Sunday night’s win over the Dallas Cowboys. Bosa came up behind Purdy and pointed at his hat. San Francisco tight end George Kittle laughed as the star linebacker ran toward the locker room.

Bosa did not speak on the issue at the post-game press conference.

“I won’t talk too much about it, but I think it was an important moment,” he said after the match.

Former Chicago Bears great Brian Urlacher backed Bosa. He commented on Bosa’s Instagram post, in which he posted a collage of photos that included the moment the 49ers linebacker showed off his supportive Trump hat.

Urlacher wrote “MAGA” in the comments section along with two American flags.

Meanwhile, Robert Rivas, who serves as the 71st speaker of the California State Assembly, called for Bosa to be traded.

“I hope (49ers CEO) @JedYork trades Nick Bosa to Mar-A-Lago. As a lifelong @49ers fan, I can say I’ve seen enough of Bosa in California.” Shared on Rivas X.

NFL rule book Rule 5, Section 4, Article 8 states what players are allowed to wear and, more importantly, what they are not allowed to wear when they arrive at the stadium on match day.

“The league will not permit any club or player to wear, display or otherwise convey messages relating to political activities or other non-football activities, causes or campaigns or any other items affixed to game uniforms or equipment such as helmet decals, armbands, jersey patches, mouthpieces or other items affixed to game uniforms or equipment.” charitable purposes or campaigns. Additionally, such approved items must be modest in size, tasteful, non-commercial and not cause controversy; football season,” the rule reads.

“During game day, during the period during which a player is visible to the stadium and television audience (including pre-game warm-ups, the bench area, and post-match interviews in the locker room or on the field), players are prohibited from wearing such clothing. The handbook states that personal messages must be made in advance by the League office.” It is stated that it is prohibited to display or communicate in written or pictorial form unless approved.

The rule also breaks that events such as helmet decals, jersey patches and armbands “to honor or commemorate anniversaries or memorable events or individuals” are allowed as long as the league office is notified.

The league had previously imposed a $10,000 fine. Pittsburgh Steelers Receiver George Pickens for displaying a personal message in his black eye during an Oct. 6 game against the Cowboys.

Bosa, meanwhile, isn’t the only Trump supporter in the league.

Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker also backed Trump earlier this year, while Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Thomas Booker IV trailed Vice President Kamala Harris.
