Timeline of disturbing events off the field for Jameson Williams

The Detroit Lions drafted wide receiver Amon-Ra St. in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. When he chose Brown, he struck gold. But the Lions’ St. He still needed a deep threat to get past the safeties while opening up the defense for Brown.

The Lions fixed that by selecting Alabama wide receiver Jameson Williams in the 2022 NFL Draft. He suffered an ACL tear during his senior season with the Crimson Tide but was expected to run a 4.30 40-yard dash, if not faster.

Williams played in just six games as an NFL rookie, and his only reception was a 41-yard touchdown. But he was fully healthy entering 2023 and was poised for a breakout year until he received his first suspension.

The Sporting News details Williams’ troubling timeline of off-field events during his brief tenure with the Lions.

Jameson Williams’ trouble timeline

Suspension of gambling

Williams was one of the players suspended for gambling in the NFL in 2023. He was one of four Lions players suspended, with another suspension being handed out to a player on the Commanders.

An investigation revealed that Williams bet on a college football game while at the team hotel during a road trip. While he was initially facing a six-game suspension, his suspension was reduced and he returned after missing four games.

PED suspension

Williams completed the 2023 season without further problems and has a clean start in 2024. But in Week 8, the NFL announced that wide receiver Violated the league’s “performance-enhancing substances” policy.

He made the following statement regarding the violation that led to a two-match suspension:

This week I was notified by the NFL that I had been suspended for violating the Performance Enhancing Substances Policy.

The news came as a complete surprise that I am still trying to understand. I don’t take supplements or vitamins, and I’m extremely cautious about even taking over-the-counter medications. I have never purchased anything with the intent to cheat or gain an unfair advantage. I understand that I am responsible for everything that enters my body and that I must take responsibility in this situation.

I have nothing but love and respect for this game, my teammates, my coaches, the Lions organization and the city of Detroit. It is disappointing to accept this suspension and I will be sad to be away from the team as we prepare this week. Out of respect for my teammates, this will be the last time I address this issue.

Williams will be sidelined for the team’s Week 8 win against the Tennessee Titans and will also miss Detroit’s Week 9 game against the Green Bay Packers.

gun incident

Williams and his brother were pulled over in Detroit after midnight on Oct. 8, and the Lions WR was handcuffed after police allegedly found an unregistered gun in the car.

Police “told Williams he would be taken into custody for carrying a concealed weapon.” ABC 7 News Detroit reportedand Williams was handcuffed and placed in the back of a police car.

Body camera footage revealed Williams He repeatedly told police he played for the Lionsand a police sergeant arriving at the scene gave the first officers the green light to release Williams without arresting him.
