Family and friends remember 3 killed in College Hill stabbing

CINCINNATI (WXIX) – It was a somber scene outside the Holloway House and Resource Center, where family and friends held a candlelight vigil in honor of 78-year-old Patricia McCollum, 32-year-old DJ McCollum and 11-year-old Kaydence McCollum.

All three victims were stabbed to death in their College Hill home on October 24.

The named suspect Anthony Mathis, 66, He was found stabbed to death at home and later died in hospital.

Family members of the victims told FOX19 NOW that he was also a member of their family.

“Now this is like a bunch of unanswered questions,” Levar McCollum said. “My grandmother cared about the community, all she did was serve.”

Patricia is remembered as a pillar of the community, raising dozens of children. The family tells us He adopted DJ when he was a baby.

Patricia’s lifelong friend Sonia Harper says DJ was treated very badly in his youth, but everything changed when Patricia came into his life.

“He was the most loving child ever,” Harper said. “It’s hard for me, especially with the DJ. “He came into the world in tragedy and left the world in the same way.”

The family says Patricia took in Kaydence when she was a baby.

“Bright bubbly – There aren’t many kids like him. He was a child who could stand up. When he felt someone was being bullied, he would stand up for them. She is the sweetest, kindest girl you will ever meet,” Jada McCollum, one of Patricia’s grandchildren, told FOX19 NOW.

The family says they’re still in shock about how something so tragic could happen and aren’t sure how they can move forward as a family without Patricia, DJ or Kaydence.

“I’m not lost now that they’re gone, but what do we do now,” Levar said.

The family says the community’s support has been overwhelming and helped cheer them up during this difficult time.
