One dead, one injured in Berrien County shooting

BERRIEN COUNTY, Michigan– One person was killed and another was injured in a shooting at the intersection of Main and Elm streets in Eau Claire early Saturday morning, according to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 12:43 a.m. on Nov. 2, deputies responded to the scene with assistance from Berrien Springs Police, Michigan State Police, Benton Harbor City K9 and Medic 1. Authorities found two male victims.

The first of the life-threatening injuries remained unresponsive when deputies arrived. A second male victim had non-life-threatening injuries. Both were transported to Spectrum Lakeland Health Hospital, where the first victim was pronounced dead.

The investigation quickly identified the suspect thanks to witness statements. The suspect was located without incident and taken into custody and is being held in the Berrien County Jail on various charges.

The name of the deceased is being kept secret until the family is notified.

The investigation is still ongoing.
