Police investigating allegations of historic sexual offenses against Russell Brand are understood to have submitted a dossier of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

The controversial comic was interviewed three times by police following an investigation by The Sunday Times, The Times and Channel 4’s Dispatches in 2023.

The joint investigation found allegations of rape, sexual assault and emotional abuse by the publisher and the comic.

Brand, 49, continues to vehemently deny any wrongdoing and says the relationships were “always consensual.”

The allegations, which emerged in September 2023, relate to the incident that is said to have occurred between 2006 and 2013.

This was a period during which Brand held several high-profile jobs, including Channel 4 and BBC Radio 2.

Brand is believed to have been questioned by police three times since the allegations first emerged in October.

News that the file has been passed to the CPS follows Channel 4’s investigation, which concluded there was “no evidence” to suggest bosses were aware of allegations made against Russell Brand during his time working for the broadcaster.

Channel 4 chief executive Alex Mahon said executives were unaware of “serious” sexual assault allegations against the comedian and actor, following a joint investigation by Channel 4’s Dispatches program and The Sunday Times.

“These interviews concerned a number of non-recent sexual offenses which were alleged to have occurred both in and outside London.

“Officers continue to support the CPS as part of their investigation.”

This comes after recent reports that Russell Brand was photographed embracing his friend Bear Grylls in the River Thames just after he was christened.

TV star and adventurer Grylls attended Brand’s christening in the River Thames in May this year.

A post was uploaded by the comic with the title: “Me, Bear Grylls, the River Thames and of course the Holy Spirit.”
