Ganja crackdown in Telangana: 4 cops suspended for alleged links with marijuana smugglers – Telangana News

Amid the crackdown on marijuana smuggling in Telangana state, four police personnel in Sangareddy district have been suspended for their alleged links with contraband smugglers.

V Satyanarayana, Multi Zone-II Inspector General of Police (IGP) in Telangana, said that two Sub-Inspectors, a Head Constable and another Police Constable have been suspended from service for allegedly maintaining links with marijuana smugglers.

The suspended police officers include Sub-Inspector Ambariya of Patancheru Police Station, Sub-Inspector Vinay Kumar of the Virtual Reality (VR) unit, Head Constable Maruti Naik of the Central Crime Station (CCS) and Armed Reserve (AR) Constable Madhu.

The suspension came after incidents emerged of these officials aiding and facilitating marijuana smuggling in the state.

The accused personnel were suspended after their names emerged during the interrogation of smugglers Mallugonda and Mallesh Naik, who were arrested in the recent operations carried out by anti-narcotics agencies and police.

In an incident that took place in May, SI Ambariya, Head Constable Maruti Naik and Constable Madhu reportedly stopped a vehicle carrying 120 kg of Marijuana in Manoor Mandal, Sanathpur.

They allegedly seized the contraband shipment, transferred it to their own vehicle, and released the defendant.

In a similar incident, police caught a gang of smugglers near Varni in Nizamabad and took them to Narayankhed, seized 400 packets of hashish and released the vehicle and the smugglers.

IG Satyanarayana said that the police and narcotics bureau were working hard to crack down and completely stop marijuana smuggling in the state, but such actions by a few officials had brought the department into disrepute.

He also stated that the police are considering the possibility of filing a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against the officers concerned.
