Watch: Police arrest man after crashing into police car in west Belfast

Detectives investigating a creeper-style burglary in north Belfast and other incidents in which two police cars were crashed have charged a 24-year-old man to appear in court.

The man was charged with a total of 16 offences, including theft, aggravated driving, damaging another vehicle and dangerous driving.

The incidents occurred shortly after 12pm on Saturday after police received an earlier report that a Silver Toyota Yaris had been stolen from an address in Brucevale Park, north Belfast.

Officers, including a specialist police intercept team, pursued the vehicle west of the city, where it crashed into a police car on the Monagh Ring Road.

Local officers stopped the car at Norglen Parade near Upper Springfield Road, where they were struck again.

The man was taken from the vehicle and taken into custody.

Police later said four officers were injured during the incident.

Detective Sergeant Magee said: “The fact that our officers were attacked in the line of duty is completely unacceptable. Thank goodness, no serious injuries were reported and they were all able to continue their duties.”

The man is expected to appear before Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Monday, November 4.

As per normal procedure, all charges are examined by the Prosecutor’s Office.
