Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said that promoting cow farming in Madhya Pradesh contributes to the economic empowerment of farmers and cattle breeders. He said stables will be established in cities to take care of cows, replacing traditional Kanji Houses.

Yadav highlighted efforts to increase milk production in over 51,000 villages in the state, aiming to make Madhya Pradesh the leading state in milk production across the country. He also emphasized his goal of rising from third place to first place in the upcoming livestock census. The Prime Minister also talked about a new initiative to provide credit cards for cow farming. Recognizing the tradition of Govardhan Puja celebrated by farmers and cattle breeders after Diwali, he noted that these ceremonies were organized for the first time at the state-wide government level to honor and preserve the state’s ancient cultural heritage and respect for cows.

Yadav extended his best wishes to the citizens gathered for Govardhan Puja during the state-level celebration at Ravindra Bhavan in Bhopal. Ravindra inaugurated the festivities by lighting a lamp on the Bahiranga stage.

Yadav said a strategic plan has been developed to increase milk production in Madhya Pradesh through partnership with the National Dairy Development Board. He highlighted the significant contributions of Iron Man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who energized the milk cooperative movement and spearheaded the national and international success of ‘Amul’ products. Inspired by the Gujarat model, the state has taken concrete steps to support farmers and cattle breeders in the dairy cooperative sector. Dr. Yadav shared that along with traditional dairy products such as milk, ghee and butter, innovations such as cow dung tree and works made from cow dung were also introduced. To encourage cow rearing, the state government has doubled the grant for each cow in the cowshed from Rs 20 to Rs 40 and special grants will be given to those rearing 10 or more cows. The goal is to increase the state’s share of national milk production from the current 9 percent to 20 percent, starting with increasing milk production in 11,000 villages through cooperatives. Activities through milk unions will also be extended to all villages and this year the state is celebrating the Gau-Vansh Raksha festival.

Chief Minister Yadav stated that adequate measures have been implemented to ensure the protection of cows in the state, which has a significant cow population. He emphasized that stringent regulations have been put in place to prevent cow slaughter, including legislation that provides for imprisonment of up to 7 years for those found guilty of this crime.

Prime Minister Dr. Yadav highlighted that Madhya Pradesh has a significant cow population with around 1.39 crore cows. The state currently ranks third in the country based on the 2019 livestock census, and efforts are underway to secure the top spot in the next census. He detailed various government initiatives and schemes aimed at supporting cow herders and promoting cow conservation. Also Dr. Yadav stated that cow ambulances are being operated across the state to provide timely veterinary care.

Yadav stated that Madhya Pradesh is actively working in various fields, including cow protection, to realize the vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. He stated that India is currently the fifth largest economy in the world and is on its way to becoming the third largest economy. Emphasizing the importance of livestock and cow breeding, he explained that these activities, along with agriculture, play an important role in increasing the economic welfare of farmers in the villages.
