Mum-of-five may be permanently disabled after being attacked following a night out

HOUSTON, Texas (KHOU) – A woman may be permanently disabled after she was allegedly followed and assaulted following a night out.

Shameka Fortner said she spends every day checking on her oldest child, 31-year-old Javoni, who is still in the hospital.

“You know, as a mother, as long as she’s in good spirits, I’m in good spirits,” Fortner said.

Javoni Fortner, a mother of five, also works two jobs.

On September 29, she went out to a paint and sip event and took some time for herself to do some self-care.

Javoni Fortner eventually took a ride home.

That same day, around 9:30 p.m., Shameka Fortner received a call about her daughter.

“I heard his voice sound hysterical and he was screaming, ‘Mom, mom, someone tried to beat me to death with a stick,'” Shameka Fortner said.

Police said Javoni Fortner was attacked with a stick or stick and the suspect may have fled in a black sedan.

Javoni Fortner was seriously injured, but his mother hopes witnesses will come forward.

Although the attacker was not seen, the family suspects that the attacker was someone Javoni Fortner knew.

Shameka Fortner believes the suspect may be someone her daughter rejected. He also said he believed his daughter was using something to defend herself.

“I still have the bag she was holding, and if it wasn’t for her bag, I probably would have been burying my daughter last weekend,” she said. “So yes, he will be disabled for the rest of his life.”

Shameka Fortner said she is grateful her daughter is alive but hopes the suspect is found.

“Catching this person has to be a top priority, there’s no telling how many times he’s done this,” Shameka Fortner said.

The family also launched a campaign. GoFundMe page help with medical expenses.

They said they also wanted to thank the person who found Javoni Fortner and called 911.
