Barre City man recovering after being stabbed

BARRE CITY, Vt. (WCAX) – A Barre City man is recovering after police say he was stabbed multiple times in his sleep.

The incident happened Sunday morning, when Barre City police officers responded to a residence on Merchant Street around 7:15 p.m.

Police said when they arrived at the scene they learned that a 28-year-old male resident had been stabbed.

The victim said he was asleep when 30-year-old Philip Mensah of Montpelier allegedly stabbed him four times, once in the neck, twice in the shoulder and once in the arm.

Police said Mensah was visiting one of the victim’s roommates.

He allegedly pulled himself off the victim and then ran away.

The police found the person nearby and detained him after a short struggle.

The injured person was released after being treated at the hospital.

Mensah is being held without bail and will appear in court on Monday.
