Empowering Women and Youth for lasting social economic growth and human development – Features – The Guardian Nigeria News – Nigeria and World News

The Government Engineer who became powerful after a long court case that threatened the legal authority freely given to him by the good people of Kano. The announcement of Abba Kabir Yusuf as Governor of Kano is truly a divine intervention to say the least.

Although no novice in administrative and management plans, knowing full well the magnitude of the responsibility before him, Abba Gıda Gıda, as it is affectionately called, came prepared to leave a positive footprint on all humanitarian endeavors.

In this edition of Kano in Focus, readers will understand Governor Yusuf’s mission on people empowerment initiatives and how the administration has so far been able to launch and impact small-scale businesses through major women and youth empowerment programmes.

In a clearly defined plan, Governor Yusuf believes that “the largest investment of any government should be in the development of human capital to ensure that government systems become fully operational.

“Therefore, we will prioritize the development skills of young people working in teams, both at a formal and informal level. Some opportunities can be used to solve the state’s unemployment problem. “The management will evaluate all opportunities and reconsider what has been done,” he said.

As mentioned earlier, this administration’s action plan in the field of human development includes the resumption of Domestic and International Education and Scholarships for graduate and undergraduate youth. Our idea is a clear departure from the previous administration, which was riven by fraudulent practices where fees were inflated and then absorbed by administration officials, thus leaving innocent students stranded in foreign lands.

To achieve this goal, Governor Yusuf sponsored foreign scholarships for 550 graduate students in October 2023. To the glory of God Almighty, this first group of foreign-educated Kano indigenes successfully completed their academic studies and returned home exactly one year later. Sending the next batch has reached an advanced stage.

The Women and Youth Empowerment Program through monthly salary payment is also included in Yusuf’s critical goal and action plan. The aim is to promote the expansion of small-scale businesses among women and youth. The initiative is not only to occupy idle hands with livelihoods, but also to reduce unemployment and poverty, difficulties arising from the current high cost of living, by creating a mass entrepreneur cluster in the ancient city.

In line with this target, Abba Gida announced that it will pay N50,000 monthly stipend to 5,200 women drawn from 44 local government areas in the state. Commencing in May this year, the government planned to disburse N260 million monthly and over N3.1 billion annually for this initiative alone.

While announcing the first batch of this empowerment plan, Governor Yusuf said: “For a patriot who faces the hardships of poverty and deprivation through thick and thin, but moves on the path of honour, dignity and respect, his livelihood and his own independence are important. The little turnover they make on a daily basis is this government’s It required his full support.

Yusuf added that “this gesture was deliberately made to support those with low incomes and families with small-scale businesses with the means to enhance and enrich their livelihoods.”

Governor Yusuf’s people’s administration, however, distributed N50, 000 each to 465 street vendors trading car accessories, decorators and kitchen utensils in the traffic jam.

This particular intervention, aimed at encouraging young boys who struggle every day to provide for their families, has indeed increased public confidence in the NNPP management. By working hard, Yusuf renewed the hope of young people and raised their expectations.

This simple gesture has greatly reduced youth unrest, unemployment, drug use and the level of crime and delinquency in the state. First of all, our administration has reactivated the necessary actions to revitalize 21 skills acquisition and specialized institutions designed to deliver skills and capacity to the state’s younger generations.

Unfortunately, about 10 years ago Dr. The centres, established during Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s second tenure as Governor of Kano state, were closed and abandoned by the Ganduje-led administration for eight years. Neglect has deprived millions of young people of the opportunity to gain future skills.
