A man (45) pleaded guilty to assaulting Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth Minister Roderic O’Gorman during a poll in north-west Dublin on Saturday.

Karl Ronan, with an address at Erris Square, Waterville, Blanchardstown, appeared before Judge David McHugh at the Blanchardstown District Court, charged with assaulting Mr O’Gorman in Erris Square on November 2, contrary to Section 2 Non-Fatal Offenses . It is against the Personal Law.

Ronan was also charged with damaging Mr O’Gorman’s board and using or engaging in threatening, abusive or insulting words or behavior “with intent to incite a breach of the peace or public indiscretion”. whether it could cause a breach of the peace on the same date”.

Defense lawyer Tertius von Eeden requested that his client’s guilty plea be included in the charges he faced.

Ronan, wearing a white T-shirt and gray sweatpants, did not speak during the brief hearing. The court heard he worked in sales, had a wife and two young children, earned around 600 euros a week and paid a mortgage.

Judge McHugh said that if criminal charges were brought, the aggrieved party had the right to be informed of the proceedings and given the opportunity to address the court.

He said the aggrieved party should be allowed to “write a letter to the court for consideration.”

Gda Joseph Rogers, attached to Blanchardstown Garda station, gave evidence that Ronan was arrested, charged and cautioned. Gda Rogers said he did not respond to the accusations made against him.

Gda Rogers said he had no objection to bail in the case, but wanted a few conditions. He asked Ronan not to have any contact, electronic or otherwise, with Mr O’Gorman and not to comment on the case online.

The judge granted the defendant his own surety fee of 100 euros. An application for legal aid was made to the judge but it was rejected.

Ronan was ordered to appear in the same court again on December 17.
