Rain, storms, colder Election Day expected today

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV)—High pressure intensifying over the Mid-Atlantic states continues to form a Southward component as winds blow toward Texas. A large front and low pressure center is crossing the Plains, causing widespread rain and thunderstorm activity along the Missouri River valley toward the Great Lakes.

We will see intermittent showers this morning. Temperatures will remain fairly mild in the lower 60s. Intermittent showers and thunderstorms are expected from noon to noon.

Severe weather conditions within sight are likely to occur primarily in our southeastern counties outside the metro along I-70. Severe weather conditions are possible in these areas, with winds over 60 mph and hail a quarter or larger in size.

While the greater threat of severe storms is expected east of the metro, we are not ruling out the threat of strong storms, especially between 1pm and 6pm, which leads us to the big game against the Buccaneers. Storm activity may be imminent enough to cause lightning delays, but overall we do not expect the game to be delayed or canceled.

Daytime high temperatures are very close to actual low temperatures and will mainly occur in the mid-60s.

As we approach election day, intermittent showers will continue in the morning hours, but will decrease as we approach noon. Wind gusts are expected to reach up to 20 mph by noon, but will disappear for the rest of the day and sustained winds will continue to decrease. However, it will be a colder day overall; temperatures will be in the upper 40s and low 50s and daytime highs will be in the upper 50s.

Expect a seasonal forecast with partly sunny skies and high temperatures in the lower 60s on both Wednesday and Thursday. Another storm system is developing out of the west on Friday, which could lead to widespread showers and thunderstorm activity that looks more likely to develop on Saturday. However, there are signs of an increase in storms by late Friday afternoon. More data needs to be collected, but in general, be prepared to use umbrellas once again from the end of the work week to the beginning of the weekend.
