5 arrested after child found locked in cage in Carrollton

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Five people were arrested after a child was found locked in a cage on Monday, November 4, according to Carrollton police.

Detectives were working on a prior tip when they found the boy in the 700 block of 7th Avenue in Carrollton.

Police said they found a boy under the age of three inside a wooden and metal enclosure that was padlocked.

Detectives then secured the area and executed a search warrant on the property. After the initial investigation, 2 children were removed from the house.

Police arrested and charged the following people:

  • Brenda Chilton, 71, of Carrollton. He is charged with criminal mischief and wanton endangerment.
  • William Mahoney, 72, of Carrollton. He is charged with criminal mischief and wanton endangerment.
  • Codey Johnson, 29, of Carrollton. He is charged with criminal mischief and wanton endangerment.
  • Tammy Simmons, 52, of Carrollton. He is charged with criminal mischief and wanton endangerment.
  • Shelby Turocy, 28, from Ghent. He is charged with criminal mischief, wanton endangerment, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.

Police are continuing the investigation.
