Police announced that a child under 3 years old was found locked in a cage

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE/Gray News) – Five people were arrested Monday after a child was found locked in a cage, according to Kentucky police.

Detectives in Carrollton were working on a previous tip when they found the boy in the 700 block of 7th Avenue.

Police said they found the child, who was under 3 years old, inside a wooden and metal enclosure that was padlocked.

Detectives took security measures in the area and obtained a search warrant on the property. After the first investigation, 2 more children were removed from the house.

Police arrested five people: 71-year-old Brenda Chilton, 72-year-old William Mahoney, 29-year-old Codey Johnson, 52-year-old Tammy Simmons and 28-year-old Shelby Turocy.

The five suspects face multiple charges, including criminal abuse and wanton endangerment. Turocy faces additional charges of drug possession.

Police are continuing the investigation.
