Indian villagers pray for ‘daughter of their land’ Harris

Indian villagers pray for ‘daughter of their land’ Harris

Residents of a village in southern India are seeking some form of “divine intervention” in the US election. They are definitely siding with Kamala Harris because they see the Democratic candidate as one of their own.

Thulasendrapuram in Tamil Nadu state is a world away from Washington, but the White House race was on everyone’s mind at a Hindu temple in the village on Tuesday.

Harris is a second-generation immigrant born to a Jamaican father and an Indian mother. He says he used to visit his relatives in Thulasendrapuram when he was a child. His grandparents lived there before moving elsewhere.

A local woman said, “In the past, women were not even allowed to go out of the house. Now, a woman from our village is running for the US presidency. This is an unlimited happiness for us. We don’t know how to celebrate.”

Foreigners were also seen praying. A large banner wishes victory to the “daughter of the soil”.
