Nebraska hires Dana Holgorsen as offensive analyst

According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, cornhuskers They hired former Houston and West Virginia head coach Dana Holgorsen as an offensive consultant. With only three games left on the regular season schedule, Holgorsen’s role is expected to expand throughout the remainder of the season.

According to CBS SportsHolgorsen worked in a similar role at TCU earlier this season. However, there are no rules against working as a consultant in more than one program.

The Cornhuskers (5-4, 2-4 Big Ten) have scored just 44 points during a three-game losing streak and have scored more than 30 points just twice on the season. Who is Dana Holgorsen?

Holgorsen was most recently the head coach of Houston football from 2019 to 2023, posting a 31-28 record. However, he was fired by the Cougars after the 2023 season after the team struggled in its first season in the Big 12 Conference, going 4-8. Houston paid Holgorsen $14.8 million more than four years for its acquisition. The Cougars were 12-2 in 2021 and 8-5 in 2022 before the conference move.

Prior to Houston, Holgorsen began his head coaching career at West Virginia from 2011-18. Achieved a record of 61-41 climbers over eight seasons, including a 10-3 record in the 2016 season. Holgorsen resigned from his position with the Mountaineers on January 1, 2019, to take the coaching position in Houston, where he previously served as offensive coordinator under Kevin Sumlin.
