Ghosts co-creators reveal what will happen after the final episode

They moved into a more traditional family home to raise their baby, Mia, and transferred the deed to Button House, a property developer who went on to develop it into a golf and spa resort.

to talk privately RadioTimes.com at the launch of the behind-the-scenes companion book Ghosts: Brought to Lifeco-creators Baynton and Howick discussed how ghosts live their lives in between semi-regular visits from Alison and Mike.

Baynton explained that “naturally” the six co-creators “shared thoughts” with each other about what kind of antics their characters were up to after the last episode.

“We think Julian will enjoy wandering around people’s honeymoon suites,” he began.

His own character, romantic poet Thomas Thorne, was head over heels in love with Alison during her time at Button House, but Baynton doesn’t rule out the possibility that her heart may have gone elsewhere.

“(Thomas) likes to think of himself as a one-woman man, but clearly he’s not because his love is moving,” he continued.

“I imagine he probably found someone else to focus on and when Alison comes back once a year he acts like there’s no one else.”

Howick explained that while the last episode depicted elderly Alison and Mike paying a festive visit to ghosts, that wasn’t quite the extent of their interactions with the eccentric ghosts.

“The idea of the last episode was that Alison and Mike would visit them more often than Christmas, and maybe we didn’t make that clear enough,” he explained.

“We also wanted to make sure the ghosts had a great time when the hotel opened. They adapt to life really well – and that’s what we’re trying to make clear with the plague-ridden people. Enjoy the sauna and steam room.”

Howick added: “The great thing about (the ending) is that you get to know the characters so well and the characters are so different that you can imagine them enjoying different aspects of the hotel.

“Pat is probably out on the lawn watching a game or something. So a hotel gives you a lot more than what Alison gives you.

“Alison has given them a glimpse into modern life and I think the hotel will offer them a buffet of entertainment.”
