Follow Live US Election Updates on Your iPhone Lock Screen. Here’s how

SanFrancisco:

As Americans begin voting to elect their next president, Apple News will bring live updates to the lock screens of iPhone and iPad users.

Users will be able to receive a Live Event tracking the election results from Apple News starting late Tuesday (US time), Apple Insider reports.

“The Lock Screen will feature a large, interactive widget that will launch the latest election coverage, and Dynamic Island will continuously display the voter count for each candidate,” the report said.

If you have a newer version of iPhone, you can track voter turnout directly on Dynamic Island while doing other things on your phone.

The widget will be available on iPhones, iPads and Apple watches while votes are being counted in the US presidential and congressional elections.

The election results of Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Kamala Harris will be shown, as well as Senate and House of Representatives election results.

To receive updates on the lock screen, the iPhone user must sign up. Open Apple News and tap “Follow the 2024 elections live.”

According to the report, Live Events will appear on iPhone and iPad Lock Screens, but only devices with Dynamic Island will have the custom user interface (UI).

Apple Watch can also show Live Event data in widget view.

Apple first introduced Live Events to take advantage of Dynamic Island and provide the user with live, up-to-date information.

Meanwhile, more than 82 million voters cast their votes in person or by mail in early voting. This amounts to more than 51 percent of the 158 million votes cast in the 2020 election.

If Harris prevails, she will be the first woman to win the presidency, the first African American woman, the first Asian American and the first Indian American to rise to the top of American politics. If Trump wins, he will become only the second president in US history to lose re-election after the first term and win on the third try. The first was Grover Cleveland.

The winner must receive at least 270 of the 538 electoral college votes.
