Man who shot his brother during argument charged with attempted murder

A man has been charged after reportedly shooting his brother during an argument in Anoka County on Saturday.

David Douglas Dady, 57, was charged Tuesday with one count of attempted second-degree murder and one count of first-degree assault.

According to court documents, the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 21600 block of Dakota Avenue Northwest in Oak Grove for a shooting at approximately 4:53 p.m.

It was determined that his father and his brother were arguing when his father shot him in the stomach. Court records state Dady was drunk at the time of the shooting.

After his arrest, Dady made statements claiming that he had an affair with his brother’s wife and that he shot her because she pushed him and got in his face.

A gun, bullet casing and bullets were also seized from the house. Eyewitnesses at the scene heard the two arguing and the gunshot, but did not see the gunshot.

In a later statement, Dady said his brother had been living with him for nearly two years and added that he had “ongoing resentments and issues” with him.

He stated that while he was arguing with his brother, he “ran at him” and hit him in the face.

His father said he was afraid his brother would hit him and felt his grandson’s safety was in danger. He said he then went downstairs and retrieved his Ruger .357 pistol.

Court records state Dady said he intended to scare his brother and claimed he pulled back and accidentally pulled the trigger.

He said he then went outside, unloaded the gun, put it in his truck and waited for law enforcement to arrive.

His father’s brother was brought to the hospital for surgery and was listed in stable condition, according to court documents.

The father remains in custody while the investigation continues.
