Fani Willis re-elected against former Trump executive intern

Fulton County, GA. District Attorney Fani Willis, known for her case against former President Donald Trump, will be re-elected as the top prosecutor in Georgia’s most populous county, The Associated Press projects.

Willis gained notoriety in 2021 for launching an investigation into Trump and his allies for their efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election. His office indicted Trump and 18 other defendants in 2023 after a year of legal challenges to the indictments because of a potential conflict of interest involving Willis and prosecutor Nathan Wade.

Former Trump administration intern Courtney Kramer, an Atlanta-area attorney, unsuccessfully challenged Willis for the position. On his campaign website, Kramer describes himself as an expert on “politics and election law” and adds that he is “an active advocate for election integrity.”

Willis’ victory comes on the heels of a tumultuous day for his voters. Fulton County polling stations were targeted with bomb threats on Tuesday, forcing officials to postpone the vote. Georgian Foreign Minister BradRaffensperger said that the threats originate from Russia.

“It looks like they’re up to some mischief,” Raffensperger said. “They don’t want us to have a smooth, fair and accurate election.”

Neighboring DeKalb County was the target of additional bomb threats later in the day. Five DeKalb County polling stations had to be swept away by police following the threats.
