Sambhal (UP): Police arrested a man who filed a fake gang rape case after finding that he had physically assaulted his wife, causing her to leave their home, authorities said Wednesday. Superintendent of Police Krishna Kumar Vishnoi said Sanju, her husband and brother Govind were arrested on Tuesday after she alleged that she was gang-raped by four men.

The brothers, both residents of Maulanpur village, on Sunday informed the police that Sanju’s wife was allegedly gang-raped in a vehicle while returning home on November 1, the SP said. However, he said that during the investigation, it was found that Sanju physically assaulted his wife, after which she left their house and stayed somewhere else.

The SP said an FIR has been registered against them under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Section 248 (false accusation with intent to cause hurt).
