Premier League: ‘Viktor Gyokeres is a Sporting CP player’ says Ruben Amorim on Manchester United interests

Manchester United’s newly appointed coach Ruben Amorim has once again denied rumors regarding the transfer of Sporting CP’s former star striker Viktor Gykeres to Old Trafford. After signing for United, Amorim’s farewell to Sporting came to a remarkable climax with an impressive 4-1 victory over Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League on 11 November. Gy¶keres attracted attention in this match and scored a magnificent hat-trick. and attracted the attention of fans and media alike, sparking speculation that Swedish striker Amorim could be a priority move to United.

However, Amorim’s post-match comments clarified his stance, stating that Gy¶keres is unlikely to follow him to the Premier League for now. Despite the links, Amorim stressed that United are focused on improving their current squad and have skillfully limited immediate transfer expectations for Gyokeres.

“Viktor is a Sporting player, Sporting is a great club, they did a lot for him and he needs to stay and finish the season.”

Gyokeres has been one of the most consistent and lethal strikers in European football since his arrival at Sporting CP from Coventry City last summer. He has become a crucial asset for Sporting, with 66 goals and 19 assists in 67 appearances in all competitions. This season alone, Gyokeres has maintained his exciting form, scoring 23 goals and providing 4 assists in 17 appearances, further cementing his reputation as one of Europe’s underrated strikers.

Manchester United’s recent struggle to find consistent goal-scoring options under Erik ten Hag, with the likes of Rasmus Hjlund, Joshua Zirkzee and Marcus Rashford facing challenges, has further increased the need for a reliable striker. Many believe Gykeres’ ability to deliver under pressure could add the firepower United need. However, Amorim’s transfer to United remains uncertain due to his focus on his current squad and rumors that Arsenal are interested in Gy¶keres.

While United fans have welcomed Gy¶keres’ prolific skills, Amorim’s cautious approach suggests he may prioritize stabilizing the team before making big-name signings. Whether or not Gykeres eventually heads to Old Trafford, his future remains a talking point in the unfolding story of Manchester United.
