DUBAI – Three people were sentenced to death by a revolutionary court in northwestern Iran on charges of spying for Israel, the semi-official Fars news agency reported on November 6.

Fars said the defendants, whose nationalities he did not specify, were accused of helping the Israeli spy agency Mossad transport equipment used in the attack. 2020 Assassination of Iranian nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh.

Dr Fakhrizadeh was seen by Western intelligence services as the mastermind of Iran’s secret program to develop a nuclear weapons capability. Iran has long denied such a claim.

The Jewish Chronicle newspaper reported in February 2021, citing intelligence sources, that Dr Fakhrizadeh was killed with a ton of weapons smuggled into Iran in pieces by Mossad agents of both Israeli and Iranian nationality.

Israel refused to comment at the time of his killing, and on 6 November an Israeli government spokesman said in response to the Persian report: “We never comment on such matters. “There is no change in our position,” he said.

A fourth defendant, also sentenced to death, was also linked to another unspecified espionage case, Fars said. REUTERS
