Donald Trump has staged the most dramatic political comeback in the history of the United States. The former president, who lost his reelection bid in 2020, was impeached twice, convicted of numerous (bad) felonies, investigated, sued, harassed endlessly, accused of being a fascist, accused of being too old, “unstable,” and “unstable.” , only won four more years In the Oval Office but withdrew Senate and House candidates with him. While we don’t know for sure, it looks like the GOP could gain control of all three branches of government.

How did the former president achieve such a resounding victory? We can point to three reasons:

  1. According to exit polls, 70 percent of Americans think the United States is on the wrong track and want change. Kamala Harris made no promises;
  2. Trump expanded his appeal and reach by joining the so-called “Obama coalition,” winning over large numbers of minorities and young people;
  3. Harris ran a terrible campaign.

In 1980, Ronald Reagan, running to unseat Democratic incumbent Jimmy Carter, famously asked voters: “Are you better off than you were four years ago?” The answer to this question has always been important, and it was so this year too. A telling Gallup poll conducted just weeks before the election showed that 52 percent of the country thought they were worse off under the Biden-Harris administration than before. It was under Trump’s administration; only 39% said they were better off. Additionally, Gallup reported that the economic confidence indicator being at minus 26 is a bad sign for Democrats. This low reading normally only occurs during a recession and signals deep unrest about the economy.

Numerous polls have shown that voters fed up with inflation, uncontrolled immigration and rising crime want a change; Harris couldn’t say “how to turn the page,” as she put it. When asked on “The View” what he would do differently than Joe Biden, he couldn’t think of “one thing.” This off-the-cuff and unimaginative response got Kamala off the hook more than any other statement made on the campaign trail.

DEPRESSED MEDIA REACTION TO TRUMP’S VICTORY: HOW CAN THIS HAPPEN?

He could reverse some of the policies that infuriated sensible voters; for example, by promising to ban men from playing women’s sports or saying he would roll back electric vehicle rules that would force Americans to buy cars they don’t want. He could have promised to secure the border and never again open the gates to millions of immigrants, criminal gangs and hundreds of people on terrorism watch lists. But he didn’t.

Trump, by contrast, campaigned with a purpose, promising to reduce inflation, roll back harmful regulations, deport criminals in the United States illegally, repeal unpopular climate mandates, and cut taxes. Moreover, he held rallies in Democrat-run New York City and California in defiance of political norms, helping down-ballot races but also expanding his appeal and reach.

She won a shocking 54% of Hispanic men, compared to 44% who favored Harris; Four years ago, Joe Biden won this group by 23 points. Trump has also greatly improved his standing with Black voters, especially in key swing states. In Wisconsin, for example, NBC exit polls show Trump doubling his Black vote share to 20%, up from 8% in 2020. He also attracted more than 40% of Jewish voters in Florida, New York and Nevada. .

Trump campaigned for all Americans rather than the “slicing and dicing” favored by Kamala Harris.

Kamala’s campaign, meanwhile, relied on joy and “feelings” rather than substance. He initially expressed relief from Democrats that Joe Biden was no longer their nominee, but later turned brutally negative towards Donald Trump when that approach stalled. He avoided interviews and unscripted appearances because he couldn’t handle either. As CBS’s Bill Whitaker asked, even the mildest of investigations baffled him. Bill Whitaker asked why he flipped on issues he espoused in the 2019 Democratic primary, such as “Medicare for all” and banning fracking.

Harris was always stuck in the headlights with questions like these, even though he should have seen the car coming from miles away. How could he not have the answers ready?

The most important campaign decision Kamala Harris made was choosing Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate instead of popular Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro. The election of one of the most progressive governors in the country confirmed that he remains the far-left San Francisco liberal who emerged in 2019, embracing the Green New Deal, banning fracking and decriminalizing illegal immigration. Shapiro was not a political moderate who would not only provide balance but also appeal to Jewish voters. And he could very well provide the key shot in the state of Pennsylvania. This was a critical mistake made by an insecure candidate.

Harris warned that Trump was a threat to democracy, but voters saw his rivals weaponize the Justice Department and try to jail political rivals, trying to crack down on the 14 million Democrats who voted for Joe Biden as their candidate in the primaries. Reform the Supreme Court and eliminate filibuster and persuade social media companies to censor their dissent.

Ultimately, voters rejected not only Kamala Harris but also decades of Democratic leadership. Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and other longtime Democratic power brokers have claimed that President Joe Biden is doing just fine, even though his persistent mental decline is obvious. After the entire nation witnessed the extent of this breakdown during her disastrous debate with Donald Trump in late June, she acknowledged that he would not be able to govern for another four years. Because they hid the truth, the party did not have time to hold primaries; They were fixated on Kamala Harris. As one of our nation’s most unpopular vice presidents ever, political analysts have long deemed him unfit for the nomination. This view turned out to be correct.

After all, voters defended democracy; They elected Donald Trump.
