BLACKPINK’s Rosé reveals the ‘vulnerabilities’ and ‘toxic relationships’ that inspired her upcoming album ‘rosie’

BLACKPINK’s Rosé and BLINKs are currently enjoying the success of her latest single ‘APT’ featuring Bruno Mars. The collaborative song has already broken streaming records, topping global charts and earning the K-pop idol the Perfect All Kill award. As Rosé prepares for the release of her upcoming solo album ‘rosie’, she gets candid about the inspiration behind the song. She reveals her vulnerability by revealing that she is affected by ‘bad comments’ on social media. Moreover, her album is about the ‘toxic relationships’ experienced by many girls in their 20s, just like Rosé.

During a conversation with Paper Magazine, the BLACKPINK singer revealed that she has a habit of scrolling social media late at night. This exposes him to bad comments that affect him negatively. He said his habit of checking would “bring to my mind bad comments.” I realized how vulnerable and dependent I was on this (online) world and my longing to feel loved and understood. I hated myself for this.

She added, “It was so disgustingly vulnerable and honest for people to find out that I was a human being who was experiencing these emotions, and I hated myself.” The K-pop idol explained that although he does not want the criticism to affect him, it often has negative consequences. “If anything, it’s something I want to cover up. Even in interviews, nothing seems to really surprise me, you know? But it is. “Every word, every comment destroys me.”

Additionally, BLACKPINK’s Rosé added that her past relationships were the inspiration behind the lyrics in the song ‘rosie’. The singer hopes her music resonates with listeners and allows them to connect with the experiences in her tracks. Emphasizing connectivity, she reiterated that she has experienced the same ups and downs as other young women in their 20s. It acknowledges the complexities of the life stage marked by vulnerability, confusion, excitement and anger.

Talking about it, she said, “I guess I’m grateful enough to have had a few relationships like a normal girl in her 20s. I want people to understand that I’m not that different from your average girlfriend or 23-year-old girl. If you listen to my songs and anyone is in that type of relationship, I’m probably very relatable. It doesn’t even have to be about a boyfriend, just any toxic relationship. Your 20s are not an easy time to live. This is when you are very vulnerable to life, confused, agitated and angry. “I wanted to sing about it.”
