ACSO deputy had an accident while going to call for help

Nov. 6 – OTHELLO – A reported theft resulted in damage to a patrol vehicle and a trespassing ticket, according to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.

ACSO deputies responded to a report of a burglary in progress in the 2100 block of West Cunningham Road around 6:45 a.m. Saturday morning, ACSO wrote. When the reporter woke up, he saw an unknown male person lying on the couch at home. The resident held the subject at gunpoint until law enforcement arrived, according to the release.

However, a deputy responding to the call encountered difficult road conditions at the intersection of Taylor and Bench roads. According to a statement from ACSO, the deputy’s vehicle crashed into the guardrail because wet roads made it difficult to stop in time.

No serious injuries were reported. ACSO wrote that the department wanted to remind residents to drive safely, especially in wet weather. Washington State Patrol will investigate the collision to ensure transparency.

During the shooting response, the Othello Police Department assisted with the theft until other officers arrived.

The teams determined that the suspect, who was drunk, thought he had entered a friend’s house and even rang the doorbell before entering the house.

The suspect fully cooperated with both the resident and responding officers. At the resident’s request, the person was issued a trespassing warning and had a courtesy escort to the home by law enforcement.
