‘Your evidence is incredible’: Prosecution seeks to show Pritam Singh’s ‘level of honesty and candor’

‘Your evidence is incredible’: Prosecution seeks to show Pritam Singh’s ‘level of honesty and candor’

DISCUSSIONS REGARDING MS KHAN’S APPEARANCE ON OCTOBER 3rd WERE SHOWN

Senior counsel Mr Ang posed a series of questions to Singh, alleging that he was dishonest in his answers.

He reminded Singh of his meeting with Ms. Khan on October 3, 2021; This was the day before he repeated his lie in parliament.

Singh had earlier stated that he had told Ms Khan to take responsibility and own up if the issue came up in parliament, meaning she would have to tell the truth.

“This was followed by ‘I won’t judge you’? Is that true?” Mr Ang asked this question in court and Singh accepted it.

Singh also acknowledged that Ms Khan appeared relaxed and understood what Singh was saying.

Mr Ang then referred Singh to an email he sent to WP MPs on October 1, 2021, in which he talked about the importance of proving what was said in parliament or risk being brought before the COP.

Mr Ang stated that he knew Ms Khan was likely to be sent to the COP and expressed disbelief that Ms Khan would appear relaxed in such a context.

“The October 1 email was fresh in his mind,” Mr. Ang said, and Singh agreed.

“You tell him to tell the truth and tomorrow he confesses… He knows he’s going to the police, so he looks visibly relieved? ‘Thank God I’m going to the police’?” Mr. Ang shouted.

Singh disagreed and noted that Mr Ang left out what happened after Singh told Ms Khan to take ownership and responsibility.

“He looked uncomfortable and in that context I told him, ‘I won’t judge you.’ After saying he looked a little relaxed, I did that to make sure he understood what I was saying,” Singh said.

Looking incredulous, Mr Ang asked: “You want us to believe that you basically told him to confess to the lie, subject himself to COP proceedings, and he visibly relaxed? That’s your evidence?”

Singh said that was what Mr Ang was discussing.

Mr Ang then continued: “Mr Singh, isn’t it true that you told him ‘keep explaining, I won’t judge you’ and he was relieved because then he knew he didn’t have to admit he lied to Parliament and he wasn’t exposed (or) to the COP It wasn’t sent to, isn’t it real?

Singh denied this.

Asked to clarify what Deputy District Judge Luke Tan meant when he said “I won’t judge you”, Singh said: “He lied and we tend to form negative views of people who lie… (but) if (Ms Khan explains) he tells the truth “I will not judge him for his lie.”

“So you’re saying you wouldn’t have a negative opinion of him?” Judge Tan asked. Singh accepted this.
