Communal tension in an Uttarakhand town after a Muslim man posted an obscene video of the woman online

A Muslim man was arrested in Paithani district Pauri Garhwal of Uttarakhand The district police took action after a 21-year-old woman allegedly shared her obscene photos and videos on social media, PTI reported on Wednesday.

The news agency did not disclose which faith the woman belonged to.

The man, identified as 24-year-old Shahnawaz Mirza, reportedly owns a barber shop in Paithani village. It has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and certain sections of the Information Technology Act.

Following the arrest, Muslim shopkeepers in the region kept their businesses closed on Wednesday.

PTI quoted unidentified officials as saying that adequate police force was deployed in Paithani after the incident.

The news agency quoted a senior police chief as saying that the woman’s brother-in-law had lodged a complaint against Mirza at Paithani police station on Tuesday.

The relative claimed that the woman left the house without informing anyone.

Police reportedly followed the woman to Kotdwar town. When she was found, she told them that Mirza had shared explicit photos and videos of herself on the social media platform Facebook, which caused her to flee her home for fear of public embarrassment.

Lakhpat Singh Bhandari, senior vice-president of Pauri Garhwal district of the Bharatiya Janata Party, visited Paithani and alleged that the residents had given a two-day ultimatum to the authorities to file charges of forced conversion, rape, kidnapping and blackmail against Mirza.
