Melaka authorities crack down on illegal food processing plant

MELAKA: Melaka Immigration Department (JIM) discovers a food processing plant operating without a license and employing illegal immigrants in Pulau Gadong.

Melaka JIM director Anirwan Fauzee Mohd Aini said 22 of the illegal immigrants were detained in the raid on Thursday, November 7.

“We were monitoring the operation for a week before the raid was carried out by 20 of my police officers,” he said.

Anirwan Fauzee said that all of those detained during the raid were between 20 and 35 years old and were found to have stayed in the country longer than necessary.

“The Malaysian manager of the store claimed that the workers came from an employment agency. We made a report to the manager and another local person working as a clerk at the premises to assist in the investigation.

“We also determined that the facility was operating without a license,” he said.

Anirwan Fauzee said 11 more illegal immigrants were detained in a separate operation at a restaurant and wholesale market here.

“During the raid, all 11 people failed to produce work permits and identity documents,” he added.
