Oakland County man sentenced to prison for stabbing his ex-wife’s new partner multiple times in front of their children

This week, Curtis Leroy Washington Jr. was sentenced to four to 15 years in prison for assault with intent to murder and a second charge of domestic violence.

Case Background

The stabbing occurred around 1:50 a.m. on Friday, September 29, 2023, at Timberridge Apartments near Grand River Boulevard and Middlebelt Road.

Washington allegedly broke into his ex-wife’s home and found his new partner there.

He then pulled out a knife and stabbed the man once in the back and four times in the chest, according to police.

Body camera video shows Washington putting pressure on the man’s chest to draw blood after stabbing him.

This all happened while Washington’s youngest child and her baby were in the room just inches away.

Responding officers quickly assessed the situation and decided not to fire. Police teams then started working to save the stabbed person.

“This could have easily escalated into a deadly force situation,” Farmington Hills Police Department Chief Jeff King said after last year’s shooting. “The suspect was moving up and down on the victim in a chaotic situation in low light. “Thanks to the quality and continuous training they have, these officers evaluated this situation and decided not to use increased force intervention.”

This stabbing was not Washington’s first connection to a domestic violence dispute. Sixteen days ago, Washington was arrested for domestic violence and released on bail.
