Manchester United Academy Briefing: Adam Lawrence discusses the UEFA Youth League, Sekou Kone and AZ Alkmaar

“The two late goals we conceded in the away game were disappointing, so it was good that the players managed the situation properly and properly later in the game and didn’t give them any opportunities, which was pleasing.

“As you progress through the competition, the tests get harder and you encounter different types of games. It was probably a good thing for us because we had more possession over the two legs, we scored a lot of goals, we had the opportunity to implement some of the things the group was after. and individually. “The boys performed well in both matches and deserved the opportunity for the next round, so we are looking forward to that.”

AZ ALKMAAR NEXT

United will face AZ Alkmaar in the third round of the UEFA Youth League and the first match will be played in the last week of November. The Dutch side won the tournament in the 2022/23 season.

“We know they are a very good Academy,” Lawrence said.

“They won this competition two years ago, so that’s probably as far as it gets. They have a good reputation for developing young players and obviously they did well in this competition as well.

“We want to move on to get into this competition and play against the best in Europe and really test ourselves and we will definitely achieve that over two legs, so the boys are really looking forward to that.”
